Data recording in Super DLT SDLT backup tape cartridge
The SDLT tape utilizes the lazer for the alignment of data recording heads. The Super-DLT tape has new advance technology called the POS (pivoting optical servo). The POS in the sdlt backup tape cartridge is located at the backside of SDLT tape cartridge. In SDLT tapes, the lazer reads the servo. That is why the sdlt tape has advantage over other tape formats because, magnetic pre formatting is not required in SDLT tape technology. So even in high magnetic field, the Super DLT cartridge can be used. In super dlt tape the recording tracks have been increased in DLTtape, and for recording purpose only the magnetic surface of SDLT tape cartridge is utilized. Less tape mounts are required, therefore the restore and backup process becomes more faster in the sdlt tapes.
