The Sony SDX2-50W is very similar to the SDX2-50C in that it has the same capacity however there is one major difference, the Sony AIT-2 SDX2-50W is a W.O.R.M (Write Once Read Many) tape. This means that users of the AIT-2 SDX2-50W tape may be able to add to the data that they originally wrote on the tape but they may not remove or delete any of it. W.O.R.M tapes are excellent for archiving purposes and are mainly used in libraries and the like. The SDX2-50W is compatible with AIT-2, AIT-3 and AIT-3Ex tape drives and auto-libraries only. Most importantly the compatibility with AIT-3Ex tape drives is limited to read only.
