The HP Q1999A, and no it was not made in the year 1999…but yes, the Q1999A is an AIT-3 tape cartridge that has a 100 GB native capacity and due to the ALDC compression used in AIT tapes which allows for up to 2.6:1 data compression, the compressed capacity for the Q1999A AIT-3 tape is 260 GB. The HP Q1999A also features a 64 Kb R-MIC (Remote - Memory In Cassette) which allows users to gain quicker access to files stored on the tape. The Q1999A has an Aramid base and a AME (Advanced Metal Evaporated) tape formulation which is a layer of pure 100% cobalt.
